This vintage postcard illustrates one of the most recognisable scenes from the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood. The young girl has arrived at her grandmother’s cottage carrying a basket, unaware that the wolf has already taken Grandma’s place in bed. Sunlight streams through the window, adding warmth to the otherwise suspenseful moment from the story.

The postcard is numbered 21167 and titled Le Petit Chaperon Rouge, with accompanying text printed in both French and Dutch on the reverse. It was printed in Belgium, reflecting the country’s long tradition of producing colourful illustrated postcards during the mid-twentieth century.

The reverse is postmarked Rotterdam, 18 July 1955, and bears a 12-cent Netherlands stamp, showing that this example was genuinely used and posted. Collectors often appreciate postally used postcards as they provide a snapshot of everyday life as well as the artwork itself.
Fairy tale postcards have remained popular with collectors because they combine children’s literature, illustration and nostalgia. Little Red Riding Hood has inspired countless postcard designs over the years, but scenes showing the dramatic encounter with the disguised wolf remain among the most memorable.
This postcard would appeal to collectors of fairy tale ephemera, children’s illustration, European postcards, or anyone with an interest in classic storybook art.
